Why My Country Close Its Doors to Syrian Refugees

In light of the recent tragedy which took place in Paris, France, acceptance of Syrian refugees in Korea has resurfaced due to social and security point. Because of social and environmental aspects, I oppose to embracing refugees of Syria.
In a social part, embracing of refugees increase the economic burden of the country’s citizens who are unprepared or maybe even unwilling to pay these costs. Also, citizens sometimes build up a negative stance towards refugees due to unsure governmental regulations. Influx of refugees leads amount of benefits to the small number of corporations. There is a possibility that the benefits may cause numerical increase in GDP. However, generally, these advantages are not equally distributed. In the short terms, farmers, builders, local merchants and small businesses may take benefits from inflow of refugees. But it negatively affects to the poor class of the host country because of inflation and wage decrease caused by increase the number of refugees in the labor market. Poor class people could experience rising house prices and falling wages. Especially it is noticeable in some fields where semi-skilled workers and unskilled workers engage. Sometimes, it might lead degradation of their life quality[1].[2]
In a security part, refugees, as they do not have a full citizenship and a sense of belonging to society, they hold a higher rate of committing crimes. In addition, there is weak controls over refugees and insufficient sanctions governments set as references for them to follow. Although acceptance of refugees does not directly correlate with the increase of terrorism, it definitely would have an impact on the social and environmental environment which would contrast to that of the current Korea. In the case of Germany and France can be the example. It was a world-wide issue that German government announced to accept a large number of refugees. However, there are some citizens who are against with this decision. And the anti-immigrant mood leads to anti-immigrant crime. According to the AP(Associated Press), the number of crime is 567 that has been taken place near the refugee camp and committed directly to the refugees. It is three times more comparing with 198 of last year[3]. In addition, the terror threat towards the volunteers, human rights groups and politicians is increasing. As another example, France, the victim of IS bomb terrorism, has only 7.5%[4] the immigrants of Muslim but 60% of prisoners are Muslims[5]. This shows that although the country has accepted a small proportion of immigrant Muslims into their country, a large amount would havehas undergone suspicion or crimes to become imprisoned. This numerical value show that if our country don’t proper systems for refugees, embracing of refugees are definitely lead to problem.

Acceptance of refugees is a matter that should be taken in humanitarian point of view. However, as we can find in the case of previous example such as Germany and France, accepting refugees may lead to short-term problems even though it has many long-term positive side. Therefore, Acceptance of refugees needs to be prepared based on certain measures and comprehensive plans.

Production and Ownership of Knowledge

                Production and Ownership of Knowledge

Definitely blog writing help me to change my mind about production and ownership of knowledge. When we started our semester, Gary said “This will help you when you do your job acquirement”. First time, I didn’t understand what Gary’s intention. As I do Gary’s homework I understand what Gary’s purpose. I think Gary’s intention of blog posting is production and ownership of knowledge. Blog posting is Kind of symposium in the point of posting something public. This means that if you made great achievement you don’t make it public in anyway. It means nothing!! People don’t know what you’ve done. Same thinking is applied to blog posting. Blog posting means to me as a great achievement. If I do my work, this works made to public. This means ownership. Gary’s homework made me to think about knowledge ownership and my point of view is changed.

Comment Give Us Something

What has the comments others have posted on my blog taught me about my own writing?

Most of the comments that people gave me were about the contents. Some agreed with my writing and some of them gave me constructive feedback, which both were very helpful to me. Also, some people corrected my grammatical mistakes that I had made. Others gave me some helpful tips, including what pictures I could insert and how I could change around my writing techniques to make my paragraphs smoother.

What have the comments I have posted on other blogs taught me about writing?

Writing comments make me look back on the writing that I have done and what people commented on my writing. Commenting, in some ways, taught me how to improve my own writing because I learned things that I wasn't able to think of while reading other people's' writing. By reading other people's work, I learned how to write the parts that I had a hard time on.

Three Prominent Research Successes in BCI

Three groups of researchers have contributed to the field of Brain computer Interface: Kennedy & Yang Dan, Nicolelis, and Donoghue & Schwartz. Brain-computer Interface (BCI) is a branch under neuropsychology[1] that utilizes cortical[2] plasticity[3] to research ways in assisting, supplementing, and even repairing human functions by connecting the brain to external devices. Kennedy and Yang Dan of UC Berkeley built the first BCI utilizing electrodes connected to the cat’s thalamus[4] and succeeded in reproducing images in the cats’ point of view in 1999. This has widened the entrance for understanding the disabled patients’ view of the world and finding a solution to helping blind patients. Nicolelis, a professor at Duke University, on the other hand, succeeded in making robotic arms that reproduced imitations of monkeys’ actions in 2000. This allows doctors to prescribe robotic arms to amputated patients and improve their life quality.

Lastly, Donoghue at Brown University and Schwartz at University of Pittsburgh decoded neuron signals and extrapolated information from a far fewer pool of neurons than researchers did before (200 neurons to 30) with a three-dimensional tracking system. With these three leading research groups that lead the field of BCI, modern neuropsychology has become more beneficial by providing alternate sources to the society.

[1] science concerned with the integration of psychological observations on behavior and the mind with neurological observations on the brain and nervous system
[2] involving or resulting from the action or condition of the cerebral cortex
[3] the quality of being able to be made into different shapes
[4] the largest subdivision of the diencephalon that consists chiefly of an ovoid mass of nuclei in each lateral wall of the third ventricle and serves chiefly to relay impulses and especially sensory impulses to and from the cerebral cortex

Blog Post #2

C.A.T(concentrate and time)
My ideal place concentrated on my works has three features which are fresh air, mood like café and infinite time. First, fresh air is very important to me. I hate stuffy feeling, for example some place, that crowded with people in small place, have hazy air. In that kind of place, my brain is muddled from the effects of the high rate of carbon dioxide. Also type of fresh air is also important to me. I like rainy air, smoky air and phytoncide scent. This kind of air makes me fresh!! Second, Mood, like café, is very comprehensive term, but I restricted it café. Café has various mood’s element. For example, café’s proper light makes mood which is not much bright and dark. Café’s music is very important element to makes people’s mood kind of gentle sound, white noise and something. Cafe’s interior make people’s mind loose. So my ideal place to concentrate look like café. Last, time is very significant to everyone also me. Whenever I study or do something that I need to concentrate, I need more time and wish much time. So my ideal place has slower time room. In slower time room, I can control time pass speed. This equipment make me not to hurry about finishing something, in the end my works quality is better. Let’s imagine my ideal place. My ideal place is located in forest near by stream. It is cabin not that big but not that small. That cabin made of whole glass with every side, and I can control glass’s brightness. In that cabin there is customized table and chair. Next to the table, there is state of the arts audio equipment. On the table, there is controller which is control all of my cabin. I just need thing that I mentioned because many thing makes me distract

How does where I live(have lived) influence how I live?

I live in Gunja-Dong around the Sejong univ. It takes 7minute to school for walk. This reason had an effect on my various life style.
First, I can use school facilities very easy. For example, I  can do sportclimbing anytime. This condition is very meaningful to me. Because, I have been wanted to do climbing before 1 year ago. But, Sport Climbing center's price is so high. But School facilities are free to student and I can do climbing everyday when I want to do. In addition, I can sleep more than any other student. This is very important to student because nowadays students are rarely sleeping for many reasons. Finally, It is easy to go library. I think this is most important reason for students why home is located to school near

"Jobs = Innovation"

What made Jobs as an icon of innovation are Pixar, NeXT and iPhone. First, Jobs linked existing animation industry, what Pixar already created, with computer graphics and opened the prospect of the new industry called 3D animation. But Jobs wanted to make more simple and more cheap program.  As a result, Pixar's graphic team invented "Renderman" and "Typestry" programs. His efforts to popularize 3D graphics made progress of 3D animation and Hollywood's C.G technology. Second, NeXT was computer company which established after Jobs was forced out of Apple, along with a few of his coworkers. In that company Jobs made the world's first object-oriented OS "NeXT Step" which based on previous Macintosh. His tendency to user-friendly was well revealed to this OS. And IOS, as to MAC OS was made based on this OS in a mobile from PC later. Finally, Jobs was known for iPhone to all around the world. And it was a full of suggestions that he suggest new paradigm of smart phone. Before iPhone most of the manufacturers followed the trend that upgrading hardware and adding additional function. The reason that iPhone is innovative is the first smart phone which gathering three things that are internet communicator, mobile phone and media player. And it adopted the overall touch screen type and accomplished the handy way to operation and the simple design. Also Jobs embodied the software-centered Smartphone through the AppStore for the first time. Additionally Jobs made various breakthrough in many fields but three things that mentioned upper part must be real innovation
